Stress-Induced Stomach Cramps: The Real Reason Your Stomach Clenches | Incheon Stress-Induced Stomach Cramps
Hello. This is Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic. Today, we're going to talk about sciatica, a condition that causes severe pain. It's called sciatica because the pain occurs along the path of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in our body, originating from the spinal cord in the lumbar region and extending down through the buttocks, thighs, and calves, all the way to the toes. If this sciatic nerve is compressed or irritated for various reasons, it can cause pain along its path, which is called sciatica.

Causes of Sciatica

The most common cause of sciatica is a lumbar disc herniation (herniated disc). When a lumbar disc herniates and compresses the sciatic nerve, it can cause pain.

Other causes include spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and Piriformis syndrome. Piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle, located deep in the buttocks, becomes stiff and compresses the sciatic nerve that passes beneath it, leading to pain.

Symptoms of Sciatica

Sciatica primarily causes pain, numbness, and tingling along the sciatic nerve path. Common symptoms include:

Pain and numbness in the lower back, buttocks, thighs, calves, and feet.

Pain worsens when sitting or standing for a long time.

Difficulty walking or even experiencing muscle weakness in severe cases.

Since these symptoms can be similar to other spinal conditions, it's important to receive an accurate diagnosis.

Korean Medicine Treatment for Sciatica

At Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic, we utilize a combination of various Korean medicine treatments for sciatica.

Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Helps relieve pain by improving blood circulation and reducing inflammation around the sciatic nerve.

Cupping Therapy: Helps relax muscles and improve circulation in the affected area.

Herbal Medicine: Addresses the root cause of sciatica by strengthening bones and muscles, reducing inflammation, and promoting nerve regeneration.

Choona Manual Therapy: Corrects misaligned spine and pelvis to reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve.

If you are experiencing pain due to sciatica, don't hesitate to visit Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic for a consultation. Psychogenic Abdominal Pain, Functional Abdominal Pain Syndrome? | Incheon Psychogenic Abdominal Pain
Hello. This is Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic. Our clinic is a specialized Korean medicine clinic for thyroid disorders, primarily treating conditions such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, and thyroid nodules. Today, we will learn about stress, one of the causes of thyroid disorders. While stress is a cause of various physical ailments, it is particularly detrimental to thyroid disorders. Notably, thyroid disorders tend to occur more frequently in women. It is difficult to avoid stress arising from social and home life, including work, childcare, and household chores. This stress directly affects the secretion of thyroid hormones and can be a cause of worsening or triggering thyroid disorders. Hyperthyroidism is a condition where thyroid hormones are excessively secreted. This accelerates the body's metabolism, causing symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, excessive sweating, weight loss, anxiety, and restlessness. Hypothyroidism is a condition where thyroid hormones are insufficiently secreted. This slows down the body's metabolism, causing symptoms such as fatigue, lethargy, weight gain, edema, and constipation. Thyroid disorders are a type of autoimmune disease, with an imbalance in the immune system being the main cause. Stress can weaken the immune system and trigger inflammatory responses, thereby worsening thyroid disorders. Therefore, stress management is crucial to prevent and treat thyroid disorders. There are various ways to manage stress. Regular exercise, sufficient sleep, a healthy diet, meditation, and hobby activities can help reduce stress and strengthen the immune system. At Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic, we offer various programs for stress management alongside treatment for thyroid disorders. Through acupuncture treatment, herbal medicine treatment, moxibustion treatment, and cupping treatment, we regulate thyroid function, strengthen the immune system, and alleviate stress. Incomplete Bowel Movements and the Reality of Retained Stool

Hello. Today, I'd like to discuss two concepts that many people find confusing: **entropion** and **ectropion**. While their names may sound similar, they actually have very different symptoms and causes.

The symptom commonly described as eyelashes poking the eye, or **'eyelash irritation'**, is one of the classic symptoms of **entropion**. It is a condition where the eyelid turns inward, causing the eyelashes to constantly irritate the eyeball, which can lead not only to ocular discomfort but also to corneal damage.

Conversely, **ectropion** refers to a condition where the eyelid turns outward. The eyelid often sags downward, exposing the red inner part of the eye to the outside. This can cause tears to evaporate easily, make the eye vulnerable to external irritants, and increase the risk of inflammation.

Although these two conditions may seem similar at first glance, their symptoms and treatments are distinctly different. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial, and if left untreated, they can lead to serious complications such as vision loss, making consultation with a specialist essential.

If you are experiencing symptoms like those described above, we recommend that you do not hesitate to consult an ophthalmologist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. We will always do our best for your eye health.

Hey everyone, have you ever tried melatonin? It's a sleep aid that inevitably pops up when you search because you can't sleep, and I'm sure everyone's heard at least once, "Take this, and you'll sleep great." But here's the catch. Why Anxiety Disorder and Depression Come Together
Many people say this....
What's the Cause of Palpitations in Anxiety Disorder?
I often hear this at the hospital. But my ECG, ultrasound, and blood tests—all come back normal. Still, the anxiety doesn't lessen. Why is that? Your heart might not be malfunctioning, but rather, it could be stuck in a sensory loop that your body has learned to remember....

Social Anxiety Disorder — Not Just Simple Shyness
Do you find it difficult to stand in front of people? That's understandable. Anyone can tremble. Of course, such tremors can sometimes be caused by psychological factors like tension or anxiety, but if they occur without a specific reason or are severe enough to interfere with daily life, it's worth suspecting a medical condition.

In such cases, most people think they are experiencing ‘essential tremor’. While essential tremor is indeed the most common cause, various other neurological diseases can also cause tremors. Because these conditions have different diagnoses and treatments, accurate diagnosis is crucial.

Today, I'd like to talk about ‘Parkinson's disease tremor’.

Tremors caused by Parkinson's disease are characterized by 'rest tremor'. Tremors appear when your hands are relaxed and at rest, and tend to decrease or disappear during activity. The tremors even disappear during sleep.

On the other hand, essential tremor has the characteristic of 'action tremor', appearing during activity. Therefore, tremors tend to worsen when using your hands, such as when writing or holding a cup.

Parkinson's disease tremor typically starts in one hand and shows an asymmetrical pattern, gradually spreading to the other side. The frequency of the tremor is relatively slow, and a characteristic 'pill-rolling tremor' appears, as if rolling a pill between the fingers.

Additionally, tremors can appear in facial areas such as the jaw, lips, and tongue. In contrast, essential tremor tends to appear symmetrically in both hands and may be accompanied by voice tremor.

The diagnosis of Parkinson's disease tremor is made through various neurological examinations. These may include brain MRI, dopamine transporter imaging (DAT scan), and neurocognitive tests. In particular, DAT scans play an important role in distinguishing Parkinson's disease tremor from other tremors.

Treatment primarily consists of drug therapy. Medications such as levodopa and dopamine agonists are used to alleviate tremors. However, if medication alone is not sufficient or if side effects are severe, surgical treatments such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) can also be considered.

Don't worry about tremor symptoms alone anymore. By consulting with a neurologist, you can improve your quality of life through accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Types of Phobias, Atypical Phobia?
"I'm afraid of balloons, and I feel suffocated when I see things with many holes." This might not sound like a common experience. Restless Legs Syndrome: Can Iron Supplements Help?
Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is, quite literally, a syndrome that makes it difficult to keep your legs still.
