Hello, everyone.

Today, I'd like to talk about 'post-miscarriage herbal medicine', which can assist in the recovery process after a miscarriage. Miscarriage is an experience that causes great pain, not only physically but also emotionally. After experiencing such a loss, it's a time when warm support is needed to regain the health of both body and mind.

Post-Miscarriage Herbal Medicine: Why is it necessary?

Post-miscarriage herbal medicine helps restore the body's vital energy (qi) weakened by miscarriage, regulate the function of internal organs, and restore the body's balance. It also provides psychological stability and warms the body, supporting a return to a healthy state.

Post-Miscarriage Recovery from a Korean Medicine Perspective

In Korean medicine, post-miscarriage recovery is viewed as 'replenishing Qi (氣) and Blood (血), and calming the mind.' It aims to restore weakened bodily functions due to miscarriage, reduce stress and depression, and help achieve harmony between body and mind.

What Does Post-Miscarriage Herbal Medicine Include?

Post-miscarriage herbal medicine primarily uses medicinal herbs that boost the body's energy and improve blood circulation. Herbs like Hwanggi (Astragalus membranaceus), Danggui (Angelica gigas), Baekchul (Atractylodes macrocephala), and Cheongung (Ligusticum chuanxiong) help restore physical strength and improve blood circulation, while Hyangbuja (Cyperus rotundus) and Siho (Bupleurum falcatum) can help with mental stability. Of course, the prescription varies depending on individual constitution and condition.

What are the Effects of Post-Miscarriage Herbal Medicine?

Post-miscarriage herbal medicine helps restore the body's vital energy, promote blood circulation, and eliminate coldness from the body. Additionally, it provides mental stability, alleviating feelings of depression or anxiety that can be experienced after a miscarriage.

How Should One Prepare for Post-Miscarriage Herbal Medicine?

It is important to receive a prescription for post-miscarriage herbal medicine after consulting with a Korean medical doctor (Hanui). It is advisable to receive a customized prescription that considers the cause of the miscarriage, the mother's constitution, and her health condition. During this process, understanding and consideration for the mother's psychological state should also be included.

Supporting the Precious Journey of Post-Miscarriage Recovery

Post-miscarriage recovery is a process that involves both the body and mind. During this time, along with ample rest, care and love are needed to gently nurture both body and mind. Post-miscarriage herbal medicine is one method that can greatly assist in this recovery process.

I have met many patients who came after visiting multiple medical institutions and departments for persistent or recurrent conditions. Symptoms normally handled by different specialties—such as abdominal pain, headaches, palpitations, dizziness, and insomnia—may overlap in one person. Sometimes there is no clear improvement despite taking medication for each symptom, and being unwell gradually becomes part of daily life. In these cases, I look beyond individual diagnoses and examine how the symptoms connect and change together. Asking only about the most uncomfortable symptom today does not reveal the full course. I look at when the body first began to change and what happened after illness, surgery, childbirth, or starting and stopping medication. I also review changes in weight, diet, and sleep, then trace which symptoms improved with previous treatment and which remained. Test results, diagnoses, and the course of previous treatment are important for understanding the current condition. Clinical research in modern Korean medicine, physiological and pathological research in modern medicine, and observations recorded in classical Korean medicine texts offer different perspectives on the same body. Rather than fitting a patient into one perspective, I consider what each can and cannot explain and look for clues that connect symptoms and treatment histories that were previously considered separately.
