Don't give up on meeting the baby you've dreamed of

Hello, I am Choi Yeon-seung, director of Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic

Pregnancy and childbirth are the greatest joys and hopes in life for many people. However, for contemporary individuals, conceiving a baby is not always easy due to various reasons. Many people struggle after trying for a long time without success. Please don't give up; I hope we can find a solution together.

Is pregnancy a distant dream for me?

It's been over 5 years since we got married. Both of us want to have a child, but despite all our efforts, there's no news. Is there a problem? Having a baby seems like a distant dream for us.

When I meet patients struggling with infertility, many say that pregnancy feels like a distant dream for them. The situation of being unable to conceive a child despite a long period of normal marital relations feels daunting and desperate. Furthermore, hearing about pregnancies around them and their families anxiously waiting for a baby only increases their stress.

Various Causes and Types of Infertility

Infertility refers to the state of being unable to conceive after one year or more of regular, unprotected intercourse. It can be caused by factors related to female reproductive organs such as the uterus and ovaries, or by male factors involving sperm quantity and quality. The decline in egg quality and quantity with age is also one of the main causes of infertility. As various factors complexly contribute to infertility, accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment are crucial.

Lifestyle and Stress as Causes of Infertility

The causes of infertility are not only problems with reproductive organs but also closely related to lifestyle habits, stress, and other factors. Poor dietary habits leading to nutritional imbalance, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking, and lack of exercise can also negatively affect reproductive function. Additionally, when our bodies experience stress, defense mechanisms are activated, and the excessive secretion of the stress hormone cortisol can disrupt the balance of reproductive hormones. This is why adopting healthy lifestyle habits and regaining peace of mind are important alongside infertility treatment.

A Korean Medicine Approach to Infertility

In Korean medicine, infertility is not viewed as merely a problem of the reproductive organs. Instead, the human body is seen as an organic system, and treatment involves identifying and addressing the root causes of infertility. We apply pattern identification and treatment, comprehensively considering factors such as impaired function of internal organs (e.g., Liver, Kidney, Spleen), qi and blood circulation disorders, and mind-body imbalance due to stress. Furthermore, personalized treatments tailored to the individual's constitution and condition are administered, including herbal medicine to eliminate accumulated toxins and waste products and invigorate qi and blood, and pharmacopuncture therapy to strengthen uterine function and improve ovarian quality.

Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic's IVF Support Treatment Program

At Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic, we provide personalized Korean medicine treatment programs for each infertility patient, based on our extensive clinical experience and expertise. Our goal is to increase pregnancy success rates by integrating Korean medicine treatments such as herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture, and moxibustion into the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) process. First, through systematic examination and consultation, we identify the causes of infertility and improve ovarian and uterine function with herbal medicine that restores the body's overall balance. We also combine this with pharmacopuncture therapy to promote ovulation and create a favorable implantation environment, as well as moxibustion therapy to improve uterine blood flow and aid endometrial development. We also consider pre- and post-procedure care crucial to optimize the patient's condition.

Achieving the Dream of Pregnancy Through Personalized Treatment and Communication

The infertility treatment process holds more meaning than simply conceiving a child. We provide care with the hope that patients will regain their health and peace of mind through treatment, leading to happy daily lives. Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic offers personalized treatment tailored to each patient, based on extensive clinical experience. We prioritize communication with patients throughout the treatment process and focus on identifying and resolving the root causes of infertility.

A Miracle Born from Unyielding Effort

After 10 years of marriage, I succeeded in getting pregnant for the first time. I had many worries because I started IVF at a late age, but thanks to the warm encouragement and personalized treatment from the Korean medicine doctor, I was able to persevere without giving up. I'm now happily sailing through my 7th month of pregnancy.

Lifestyle Management Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Along with IVF, there are things you can consistently practice in your daily life. First, it's important to consume all the necessary nutrients for your body through a balanced diet. Avoid excessive dieting, and it's good to boost your immunity with moderate exercise. Not getting stressed is also essential. Take time to regain peace of mind through your favorite hobbies, light meditation, or walking in the forest. A regular daily rhythm and sufficient sleep also aid in conception. Above all, a mindset of self-love and self-encouragement is crucial.

We Support Your Pregnancy Journey

I, the director, personally convey this message of encouragement. The IVF process is by no means easy, but I believe in the patients' earnest desire and courage. Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic will be with you until the day you hold your baby in your arms. Please visit us anytime to share your concerns.

I want to say this to those who have been struggling for a long time to have a child: Don't forget that you are not alone. There are many others facing the same struggles, and with diligent effort, good results will surely come. Don't give up, and don't lose hope.

I have met many patients who came after visiting multiple medical institutions and departments for persistent or recurrent conditions. Symptoms normally handled by different specialties—such as abdominal pain, headaches, palpitations, dizziness, and insomnia—may overlap in one person. Sometimes there is no clear improvement despite taking medication for each symptom, and being unwell gradually becomes part of daily life. In these cases, I look beyond individual diagnoses and examine how the symptoms connect and change together. Asking only about the most uncomfortable symptom today does not reveal the full course. I look at when the body first began to change and what happened after illness, surgery, childbirth, or starting and stopping medication. I also review changes in weight, diet, and sleep, then trace which symptoms improved with previous treatment and which remained. Test results, diagnoses, and the course of previous treatment are important for understanding the current condition. Clinical research in modern Korean medicine, physiological and pathological research in modern medicine, and observations recorded in classical Korean medicine texts offer different perspectives on the same body. Rather than fitting a patient into one perspective, I consider what each can and cannot explain and look for clues that connect symptoms and treatment histories that were previously considered separately.
